Asabe Madaki is a Nigerian actress, filmmaker, and legal scholar whose career seamlessly connects law, cinema, and music through her deep love of storytelling.
Born and raised in Kaduna, Northwestern Nigeria, where she continues to live and work, Asabe's journey into film began with childhood afternoons spent captivated by Hausa cinema. That early fascination would eventually grow into a multifaceted career spanning multiple creative industries.
Her academic credentials are extensive. She earned an LLM in Oil and Gas Law from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, a Bachelor of Law (Second Class Upper Division) from the University of Jos, and qualified as a Barrister at Law from the Nigerian Law School in Abuja. She also holds a Diploma in International Environmental Law from UNITAR and is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Alternative Dispute Resolution at the University of Jos while completing a Master's in Organizational Leadership and Management.
In 2015, Asabe entered the Nigerian film industry, working across both Kannywood and Nollywood. Her roles in major films like Amina, Black Book, Voiceless, and Breaking Out established her as a serious talent. In 2022, she earned a Best Actress nomination at the African Movies Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), recognition that marked her growing influence across the continent.
Her work extends well beyond performance. In 2013, she founded Piczels Media Services, where she serves as Managing Director. The company has produced documentaries for clients including the Nigerian Army, developed television content, and created programming that reaches audiences throughout Nigeria. She also works as a translator between English and Hausa, ensuring language accessibility in media production.
Asabe has pursued continuous training through programs including the Toka Mcbaror Master Class for Acting, Directing, and Cinematography, the Women's International Film Festival, and the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership Center. She applies this expertise to her own creative projects, having written, directed, and produced work including the short film The Last Call and television series like Shirrin Jarumai and Na'isa, both centered on people living with disabilities.
Music has always been central to her creative life. A performing singer, she is currently establishing her own recording studio, a project designed to serve as a collaborative space for artists and musicians.
Today, Asabe balances acting, directing, producing, music, media consulting, and training emerging filmmakers from her home base in Kaduna. Her work continues to explore the complexity of Nigerian life and culture through every medium she touches.
